2020 was tough and disturbing in many ways. We all know how devastating this year was. Everyone in the world was affected by the disasters that had occurred back then. The pandemic took the lives of so many people and also the world economy collapsed. The lockdown lasted for more than half a year in so many countries, all the businesses were shut down and people were having a difficult time even feeding themselves. Many people died of even hunger. In short, 2020 impacted the world extremely.

Despite all the bad things that happened the previous year, we could witness a very surprising rise in the tech and IT world. At times, it seemed that 2020 was a boon for the Tech World. Let’s talk about the positive impact the coronavirus and lockdown gave on the IT world.

There were many online platforms where we could notice a rise in users. People were locked in the homes and had to stay all day long doing nothing. During this time they had to search for something that could entertain them and keep them engaged. Online video streaming and entertainment platforms like YouTube, Netflix, and Tiktok were the user's first and foremost choice to spend their spare time. They had millions of videos to see and this helped them to get rid of boredom. Many people kept being an audience but some of the people even started content creation. The existing creates got more audience and the audience got more creators. Online video games like PUBG, FreeFire, Valorant, COD Mobile, AmongUs, etc also saw a positive rise in the number of players to play the game.

Because the teaching institutions like schools and colleges were shut down, students had to opt for online classes. This created positive growth in the video conferencing apps/sites like Zoom and Google Classroom. Almost all the online companies could notice a J-Curve in their stats as they got many more users than normal at this time. This increased their revenue by almost 2–3 times than usual.

YouTube became a prime learning and teaching platform back then because people could learn almost everything just sitting in their homes. They could find almost every topic and subject matters they searched for.

Zoom and Google Classroom were chosen for online classes during the times. Stats say that Zoom had even got a peak of 300 million+ users at a time in 2020.

Children and even elder people had a lot of spare time so they invested that time in playing popular video games like PUBG, FreeFire, etc. The gaming industry just got a booming rise all over the world. Many people even chose E-Sports as their career and started to play games professionally.

As all the markets were shut down, people started buying goods from E-Commerce websites like Amazon, Flipkart, Daraz, etc. This was more convenient for the buyers because they could get the desired item in their footsteps.

Many IT companies got their existence during the lockdown. People could work from home and also could earn money by just sitting and doing the tasks in their homes.

Here I have just mentioned some of the companies that had a rise but there are so many companies other than this that progressed drastically. Coronavirus and Lockdown can be called a boon for all the Tech guys out there. :)
